Maintenance Automation Technician

UPM Raflatac is looking to recruit a

Maintenance Automation Technician

to be responsible for all aspects of machine and equipment maintenance at the Wilkes-Barre facility, with emphasis on automation/electrical maintenance. 

Your main tasks will include:

  • Responsible for executing assigned work orders.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems in breakdowns, automation, electrical and mechanical. 
  • Responsible for monitoring PLC software.
  • Participate in new equipment installations, upgrades and modifications.  
  • Recommend and implement corrective/predictive/preventive measures to eliminate equipment problems and improve work practices.
  • Participate in reliability centered maintenance program to optimize efficiency and production flow. 
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of condition monitoring, work performed, parts used, follow-up needed, etc. as related to equipment maintenance.
  • Perform personal planning for assigned work.
  • Assist coworkers as necessary in the same and other job functions.
  • Maintain appropriate housekeeping standards in all work areas.
  • Maintain local storeroom and spare parts coordination.
  • Close communication and oversight of local contractors.
  • Negotiate service agreements for machines and machine elements.
  • Work with the local machine workshops
  • Assist production with troubleshooting product quality issues.
  • Participate in after hour call-ins to assist in equipment breakdowns.
  • Other duties as required by the Emergency Action Plan or in accordance with the Hazardous Waste Management Facility Contingency Plan.
  • Perform all duties in full compliance of all laws, safety and environmental regulations, and in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures. 

Our expectations from you are:

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology,
  • Automation, or related discipline, and 5 – 10 years responsible multi-craft maintenance in an industrial environment, with primary expertise in electrical/automation maintenance. 
  • Experience in paper or paper converting industry preferred. 
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code and relevant OSHA requirements desired.
  • Good understanding of electrical hardware diagrams and electrical symbols for both European and US Standard styles strongly desired.
  • Must have understanding of mechanical components used and the effective maintenance of a wide range of equipment, including highly automated, technologically advanced machinery. 
  • Must have well-developed problem solving skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.
  • Must have good understanding of PLC systems, and ability to create PLC –program code and program documentation. 
  • Should have good practical experience in PLC – Systems (preferably Siemens S7) for process or material handling work. 
  • Good practical or operator interface systems, CMMS and electrical hardware planning done by AutoCAD tools helpful.
  • Background in welding, machining, pneumatic and hydraulic systems desired.  
  • Must have excellent communication skills, and the ability to relate well to a wide range of constituents.
  • Must be able work well independently and function well as a member of a team.
